Three Romantic Reasons To Have A Bangkok Wedding

Bangkok-Weddings-2

There is no better way to experience Thailand than to stay in Bangkok. The so-called City of Angels is a haven of great escapades and thrilling adventures that will surely sweep the hearts of many.

Through the years, Asia’s gateway to paradise never fails to enchant and mesmerize travellers from around the world. For the weary seafarers of the Silk Route to the wandering souls of fearless backpackers, Bangkok is a place where heaven and earth meet. Likewise, for couples who can’t wait to express their marital vows, Thailand’s capital city is often a chosen destination.

The number of weddings held in Bangkok continues to increase every year. Couples are often enthralled with the unique activities that the city offers. Thus, if you are planning to have a wedding in Bangkok, make sure you don’t miss any of the following marvels:

A. The Floating Markets of Klong Dao Kanong and Damnoen Saduak – Now, this is Venice with an Asian twist. Have a taste of Bangkok’s village life. See those colorful canoes filled with Thai veggies and fruits as they sail away through the narrow canals. Buy some souvenirs if you want. Or, you can simply enjoy the scenery. No, there are no gondolas in Bangkok. But come to think of it, where else in this world can you see floating markets that are as vibrant and dynamic as this one?

B. Buddhist temples that make you reach nirvana – Take the spiritual path and be enlightened as you and your loved one visit the acclaimed Buddhist temples of Bangkok. Weddings in Bangkok are incomplete if newlyweds have not yet paid a visit
to these places of worship. The temple of the reclining Buddha in Wat Pho is a must-see destination for everyone. This 46-meter long and 15-meter high gold-plated statue reminds the people about Buddha’s entry to Nirvana. With eyes and feet made of mother of pearls, the reclining Buddha is a sure inspiration to couples who want to fill their married lives with love, peace and harmony. Aside from being a religious site, Wat Pho is also Thailand’s center of public education.

C. Museums and Galleries – Contrary to popular belief, Thailand is not just about sands and beaches. Bangkok boasts of its comprehensive museums and galleries. Lovers who just celebrated their Bangkok wedding are encouraged to have a historical
journey in the city. Let history unfold right before your eyes as you set foot on Bangkok’s National Museum.

Bangkok’s National Museum is one of the most progressive galleries in the whole Southeast Asia. Artifacts from the Bronze Age are well-preserved in this museum. In case you and your loved one can’t seem to get over your childhood, you might want to stop by at Bangkok’s Doll Museum. For once, forget Barbie and Ken and see a wide collection of dolls from Thailand and from other parts of the world.

Make your Bangkok wedding a memorable one. Fall in love with the City of Angels and have a taste of the good and exquisite life.

*Note: Marrying in Bangkok requires you to comply with Thailand marriage registration requirements. Aside from coordinating with expert wedding planners, it is recommended that you seek legal assistance to avoid legally-related consequences.

Discover the Proud Heritage of Thai Silk at the Resplendent Jim Thompson House in Bangkok

Discover the Proud Heritage of Thai Silk at the Resplendent Jim Thompson House in Bangkok

Article by Pushpitha Wijesinghe

Considered the heart of Bangkok’s social scene in its heyday the Jim Thompson House remains just as popular today despite and perhaps because of the legend behind its owner’s mysterious disappearance. The stunning Thai style home of silk pioneer James H.W. Thompson is a popular Bangkok stopover not merely due to the enigma that surrounds its owner but also due to its inherent architectural beauty and the collection of antiques the house contains. Tucked away within the lush environs of a landscape thick in tropical foliage lies the combination of six traditional Thai houses that is the Jim Thompson House. Having been completed in the late 50′s it is said that the house’s teak structures were transported to the present venue in Bangkok from all across Thailand.

A majority of the structures that form the house are the remains or remnants of old houses from remote villages in the country which were taken apart and carefully arranged on barges before being transported via rivers and klongs to be reassembled in Bangkok. The oldest quarter of the house is of course the 19th century drawing room which was brought over from the Ban Krua silk weaving hamlet while a crystal chandelier from a royal palace adds to the room’s lustre. The kitchen also belongs to the same village and also dates back to the 19th century while the rest of the house contains structures from Ayutthaya and Pak Hai.

Decorated with priceless paintings, sculptures, porcelain items and beautiful collectibles the house’s interiors are some of the most richly ornamented spaces in the city. As a serious antique connoisseur Jim Thompson acquired some of the finest examples of Southeast Asian creations on his many journeys to Ayutthaya and Nakorn Kasem. Some of the highlights within the premises include the 18th century Ayutthaya Buddha image and the 19th century Bangkok style carved wood panel which displays the classic scenes from Phra Malai’s encounter in Indra’s heaven in addition to other countless porcelain items.

The Jim Thompson Silk Museum is also located adjacent to the home and showcases the silk icon’s flamboyant life story as well as his signature silk creations.
