Koh Samui Flights Guide – Flights to Koh Samui Island – Thailand

Koh Samui Flights Guide – Flights to Koh Samui Island – Thailand

Article by Jen Johnston

Thailand’s paradise island of Koh Samui boasts some of the best beaches in the region and the island’s growing popularity caused a recent expansion of the airport meaning that the island has the capacity to bring in more flights each day, in turn bringing more and more visitors to the island. But what air carriers fly to Koh Samui and where can you take a flight to Koh Samui? Read on for full information Koh Samui flights and getting to Samui.

The main air carrier to the island is Bangkok Air (BA), who are actually the owners of Samui International Airport, though recently Thai Air have also started flying from here. Both Thai Air and Bangkok Air fly to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and not to Bangkok’s older Don Muang Airport.

BA bring visitors to Koh Samui from eight domestic locations; Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya (U-Tapao), Phuket, Sukhothai and Trat and ten International locations; Bangalore, Dhaka, Hong Kong, Luang Prabang, Maldives, Mumbai, Phnom Pen, Siam Reap, Singapore and Yangoon. There are around twenty BA flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui each day with flights departing from 6am until 8pm. Flying to Samui from Bangkok takes between sixty and ninety minutes depending on the type of aircraft used and return flights to Bangkok depart from 6am until 10pm.There is one daily BA flight to the island from both Hong Kong and Singapore at 5.05pm and 8.10pm respectively with flights returning at 11.35am and 4.30pm.

Thai Air also operates two daily flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui at 7.45am and 3.20pm with return flights at 9.30am and 5.05pm. They also operate flights to Singapore and Hong Kong, though a stop-over in Bangkok is required..

During the high tourist season or at the last minute, finding an available flight to Samui can be problematic, however there is another option. Surat Thai airport, on the mainland, operates flights to and from Koh Samui with combined air, bus and sea tickets bringing you from Bangkok to Surat Thani airport with bus and ferry transfer directly to Samui. The combined flights are operated by the budget airline Nok Air which is now flying from Suvarnabhumi with Air Asia also operating domestic flights to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi from Surat Thani Airport.

However you plan on getting to Samui try your best to book ahead, especially in high season, and if you book your flights from Samui with Bangkok Air, be sure to take advantage of the fantastic BA lounge in Suvarnabhumi Airport which offers complimentary snacks, refreshments and free Wi-Fi.
